Affiance

2024.

In 2024 I made an exhibition in collaboration with Jelena Vuković, poet and artist from Montenegro. Since we both explore feminine archetypes through our work for this exhibition we decided to focus on the archetype of affiance.

Affiance is an archaic English noun meaning “trust, faith, confidence,” and  “marriage contract or promise”.
The Croatian title of the exhibition Vjer•e•nica plays with the words “vjerenica” which means fiancée (a woman engaged to be married) and “vjernica” which means a woman who believes in God.

I made a piece called Affiance in a form of a triptych consisting of three videos, and above each screen a framed drawing of a rose. The piece is a poetic exploration of the archetype of Mary Magdalene and different iconography her character took on throughout art history, as well as my own interpretation.

Here you can read the whole text by curator Jasmina Šarić.
