2022.
My piece Ritual 3:5:7 was made for an international group exhibition of contemporary drawing DRAW – WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY DRAWING AND WHAT CAN IT ALL BE?.
Ritual 3:5:7 is my exploration of the poetics of a ritual. Concentrating on the rhythmic aspect as well as numerological dimension of ritualistic practice I placed different elements into a constellation, translating the linguistic language of poetry into visual language of spacial installation. Combining various symbols of natural world into repeating patterns I created a pulsating mantra that offers the main quality of a ritual – concentrated energy. Although the installation is compounded of several different media, the basis of it is a drawing, the most primal form of visual language.
The DRAW exhibition was made as collaboration between the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, Columbia University and the Museum of Fine Arts Split, and it presented a number of American and Croatian contemporary artists who are rethinking the medium of drawing in various ways. The exhibition provided an insight into the latest developments on the contemporary art scene, those artists who recognise the quality and possibilities of creation in the drawing medium, whose work surprises with its inventiveness and creativity, whether in pure drawing or in combination with other art techniques.
